About Our Steel Bases

Steel bases built for your piece

A steel base gives solid wood a clean, modern line and a lot of strength in a slim profile. We weld every base in house and size it to the length, width and weight of the piece it carries, so it sits right and stays steady for years.

Steel is a natural partner for live edge slabs and epoxy river tables, where the wood is the focal point and the base should stay out of the way. It works just as well under farmhouse, reclaimed barnwood and conference tables.

More than dining tables

Any of our metal bases can be built for dining, counter or bar height. We also weld steel legs and frames for benches, coffee tables, desks, sofas and other furniture, finished to match the rest of the room.

Choosing a Base

Match the base to the table

Rectangular, live edge and river tables: trestle-style bases like the Twisted Knuckle, Forged Loop, Golden Gate, Timber Base, Foundry and Evans Foundry, a U base, the Twisted X, or the Modern Panel, keep the ends clear for extra chairs and carry long, heavy slabs.

Round and square tables: the Cross Tube, Golden Gate Pedestal Base, Davis Flare Base and Golden Gate Pedestal with Foot Ring sit at the center of the table with no legs at the corners, so every seat gets the same legroom. They're grouped together under Best for Round & Square Tables above.

Powder-coated to last

Every steel base is finished in a durable powder coat: Natural, Black Texture, Gold Bronze, Mist Bronze, Sun Gold, Roman Gold or Textured Copper. Ask us if you want to match another color.

Questions

Steel Base FAQs

Are your steel bases made in America?

Yes. We weld our steel bases in house, so each one is built to suit the size and weight of the piece it carries.

How do I choose a steel base for my table?

Start with the shape. Trestle-style and U bases suit rectangular, live edge and river tables and keep the ends clear for chairs. The Cross Tube, Golden Gate Pedestal Base, Davis Flare Base and Golden Gate Pedestal with Foot Ring suit round and square tables because there are no legs at the corners. If you are unsure, send us your table size and we will recommend one.

Which steel bases are best for round or square tables?

The Cross Tube, Golden Gate Pedestal Base, Davis Flare Base and Golden Gate Pedestal with Foot Ring. Each one supports the top from the center, so there are no legs at the corners and chairs fit evenly all the way around. They work for round and square dining tables, as well as smaller tables for kitchens and breakfast nooks.

Can a steel base be built for counter or bar height?

Yes. Any of our metal table bases can be built for dining, counter or bar height.

Do you make steel bases for benches, sofas or other furniture?

Yes. Our powder-coat colors and welded steel frames are also used on benches, coffee tables, desks, sofas and more. Tell us what you are building.

What powder-coat colors are available?

Natural, Black Texture, Gold Bronze, Mist Bronze, Sun Gold, Roman Gold and Textured Copper. Ask us if you want to match a different color.

Do steel bases work with live edge and epoxy river tables?

Yes. Steel is a natural fit for live edge, epoxy river and solid wood tops. Trestle-style and U bases are the most popular choices for long slab tables.

Can you build a custom steel base?

Yes. Send a sketch or a photo of a base you like and we will design a custom steel base around it. Prefer wood? See our wood table bases.
