Options for Live Edge Slabs
Our live edge wood dining and pub tables contain an assortment of woods including Walnut, Cherry, Maple, Wormy Maple, Sycamore, Hickory, Oak, and more.
In many cases, the bark has been carefully removed from each solid piece of hand-selected wood without disturbing the natural development of its edge. But for some live edge pieces, the bark is left intact. Every intricate grain pattern, wormhole, and knot are all unique features found in no other table, making it truly special. With some designs, you have the option of adding a “river” of colored epoxy. Each table’s top is finished in a clear coat of pre-catalyzed polyurethane to preserve the details against everyday wear and tear.

FAQs About Live Edge Table
What are live-edge tables?
A live edge slab table reveals the natural edges of the tree (sometimes including the bark) and wood grain patterns. Instead of plank wood that requires cutting the wood into straight-edged pieces, the slabs of wood for live edge tables are produced by cutting the tree longitudinally and retaining the natural bark-sided edges. The middle section of the tree would be the largest live edge piece.
What kind of wood is used in a live-edge table?
Harder wood is best for live-edge tables to prevent warping. We offer many tree species including Walnut, Oak, Spalted Maple, Sycamore, and more. All of our live edge furniture can be customized. You can read more about the hardness (Janka rating) and all the wood types we offer here.
What to look for in a live edge table?
When you shop for a live edge table, we recommend looking for reputable sources so you can get a quality live edge table that lasts for years.
Are live edge tables expensive?
At Rustic Red Door, we prioritize quality. Though the term "expensive" is relative, we do offer live edge pieces at various prices, wood types, and furniture types. We take great care in getting high-quality wood and expert craftsmen so the wood is taken care of from start to finish.
Are live edge tables still in style?
Though trends come and go, we believe live edge slabs are here to stay. The natural features of the wood slab reveal indescribable and natural beauty from the center of trees. You can make it even more unique by customizing an epoxy river between the slabs.
Do live edge tables crack?
Cracking can happen when the wood expands and contracts. To avoid cracking, we recommend minimizing humidity and temperature changes, while keeping your table out of direct sunlight.
Are live-edge tables durable?
Yes, a live edge dining table is a durable choice. We take great care in selecting high-quality wood and adding a pre-catalyzed polyurethane finish to protect it from everyday wear and tear.
Do live-edge tables warp?
Warping can happen when the wood slab isn't completely dry. At Rustic Red Door, we make sure the wood is 100% dry before adding any finish to avoid warping.
Are your tables food safe and waterproof?
Our tables are food safe, and water-resistant, but not waterproof. Always clean with a damp cloth and avoid it from getting soaked.
Do you offer a warranty?
We offer a 1-year warranty on select wood furniture and décor items. Please see our warranty page for more information.
