CREATING A HOME BAR:
7 Tips for Choosing Pub Furniture
Is it time to upgrade your Man Cave, She Shed, or Home Bar? When choosing furniture, consider these seven factors to ensure your space is stylish and functional. Here's a general guide:
1. Space & Layout
-
Dimensions: Measure the space allotted for your home bar. When planning, include the floor and vertical spaces for shelving or wall-mounted features.
-
Traffic Flow: Ensure enough room for people to move about comfortably. We suggest allowing at least 42-48 inches between the table and the walls or any other furniture in the space.
2. Your Design Style
-
Match Your Decor: Choose furniture that complements the existing design style of your home. Find pieces that will blend well, whether it’s modern, rustic, industrial, or traditional.
-
Material Selection: Consider materials that coordinate with your style and are easy to maintain. Common options include wood, metal, glass tables, (or a combination of materials), and wood or upholstered bar stools. (Our Barrel Furniture Collection combines wood, glass, and steel in its design.)
3. Purpose & Function
-
Table Size: Tables should be large enough to accommodate the family and guests you plan to seat. (Get our free Dining Table Guide for help choosing the right table dimensions.)
-
Seating: Bar stools should be comfortable for long periods. Consider stools like our reclaimed wood Bayfield Rustic Backless Swivel Stools, our Walnut Swivel Stool with a backrest, and/or upholstered seats like our Barrel Round Swivel Barrel Stool. (Most of our stools are available in different height options.)
3. Purpose & Function (cont'd)
-
Shelving: Consider including shelving in your bar space to help keep glasses and beverages conveniently within reach. A beautiful wine shelf or wooden wine glass shelf would complement any space!
4. Pub Table Height
-
Standard Heights: Typical pub/bar height is about 42 inches while seats of bar stools are usually around 30 inches tall. (Our cafe tables are 30"H; counter height tables are 36"H.) Make sure the stools coordinate with the height of your bar table for maximum comfort.
5. Durability & Care
-
Top-quality Materials: Invest in high-quality furniture that will withstand regular use. Our handcrafted furniture is built to heirloom-quality standards to last at least a lifetime. Opt for well-built items that are easy to clean. (See our FAQ page for our maintenance and cleaning instructions.)
-
Maintenance Needs: Consider the ease of maintaining the furniture. Powder-coated steel and wood finished in quality urethane are generally low maintenance.
6. Cost vs. Quality
-
Balance your budget with the quality of furniture. It’s often worth spending a bit more on durable, high-quality pieces that will last well into the next generation…and beyond.
7. Personal Preferences
-
Options: To help meet your specific needs and taste, we offer several wood types and design styles of pub tables and bar stools. Browse here for our customer-favorite stains, wood, epoxy, and table bases.
-
Comfort and Practicality: Choose furniture that you find comfortable and easy to use. Your personal preferences should be the guide to your final decision on what works for your family.
By considering these 7 points, you can create a home bar space that’s the perfect spot for entertaining guests or enjoying a quiet, relaxing drink at home.
