Our Custom Design Process
One of our favorite things to do at Rustic Red Door is to bring your style to life through custom-designed furniture that is built to last for generations. We are firm believers that every home is unique - and you shouldn’t be limited by what’s in stock when it comes to filling your home with pieces you love.
From kitchen buffets to coffee tables to barnwood walls, we can design just about anything! But our speciality has always been elevating the heart of the home with custom-built solid wood dining tables.
Our design process is simple: you let us know what you are looking for and then we collaborate with you to design the perfect table to fit your space and style. We can customize any of our existing tables, or start completely from scratch to build the perfect option for you.
In the end, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind piece, designed with you, for you. Our heirloom-quality items are built according to the highest of standards, so we hope your custom table is one that will be passed down for generations to come!

Sharing Your Unique Style & Needs
Creating the perfect custom furniture for your home means blending your unique style with the knowledge of our experienced design consultants. We start by finding out some of the specifics of your space along with your design preferences.
This is done with an initial complimentary design consultation, either in person or virtually, where we find out:
The size of your dining space
Desired seating capacity / Table dimensions
Space allowances for walkthroughs/clearance
Colors of flooring, walls, and other elements of the room
Table style preferences: wood type, base type (steel or wood), extendibility
After we understand the key elements of the table you are looking for, we will spend time sharing examples of different styles to hone in on what will fit best within your home.
Whether you are looking for a rustic barnwood table, a large slab live edge table that will make a statement, a river table with colored epoxy, or something else, we will help you find your unique style!

Our custom tables can be great conversation starters. Each and every piece of furniture we create has its own character through knots, rings, and other “imperfections”. We like to say that every piece of wood has a story to tell, and we love finding unique pieces for our customers.

Sourcing the Wood
We love taking road trips to the 20+ mills in the midwest that provide the wood slabs for our tables. When we find interesting pieces that have the potential of being handcrafted into a unique and unusual conversation piece, we bring the wood back and add it to our growing inventory. Our customers can make their future table selections from our beautiful collection of wood at our warehouse firsthand.

If we don’t have something in stock that catches your eye, we will go out and find the perfect wood for your custom project. We offer solid wood types like Oak, Maple, Hickory, Cherry, and more along with reclaimed barnwood.

Building Your Custom Furniture
With the wood in hand, there are only a few more customizations to consider for your one-of-a-kind table. We will work with you to decide the following elements for your custom table, always keeping in mind your home and style preferences.
- Wood stain + finish
- Epoxy color for fills and rivers; inlays (if available)
- Base style (standard hand-welded American steel options or custom design available)
With these selections made, our carefully chosen Amish woodworkers will get to work handcrafting your custom table. Depending on the design, your custom table will typically be ready for delivery to your home within 18-32 weeks.
