(Note: Our live edge tables are one-of-a-kind and cannot be copied or replicated, so once a live edge piece is sold, it’s gone.)
Live edge is a term used to describe a style of furniture. For each solid piece of live edge wood, the natural edge (including its stunning twists, turns, and curves) is left on at least one side of the wood. Every table, desk, shelf, mantel, or bench has amazingly unique knots and characteristics that add to the wholesomeness of its simple beauty.
However, if you prefer more or fewer features or characteristics (more bark on all sides, all bark removed, a less curved edge, a different width or straighter width, etc.), we'll work closely with you to achieve your desired look.

We keep a variety of hand-picked wood slabs at our warehouse that can be used for live edge tables. We stay in close communication with our customers through phone calls, videos, and the sharing of images during the wood selection and design process.
If you’re looking for something different than what we have on hand, we can source it. We’ll visit our trusted mills and find slabs that better match your project.
Using epoxy fills is a beautiful way to fill naturally-occurring gaps, voids, or crevices in wood pieces. Choosing a contrasting color adds interest while showcasing the magnificent features of the wood. Epoxy in a more similar color to the wood adds a completely different look while it fills voids or even takes the place of “missing” wood pieces. In most instances, epoxy makes the slabs stronger as it works to adhere edges of wood together - whether the gap is large or small. Epoxy is also used to create the “rivers” that connect two live edge pieces. (See below)
Bow ties are generally used as a decorative way to connect two edges of a naturally-occurring crevice. Overall, they also serve to strengthen the wood piece.
When the desired width of a live edge table is wider than one wood piece can achieve, two slabs, usually from the same tree and with similar grain lines and markings, are selected. The slabs are joined together side-by-side to “mirror” or“book-match”each other while they create the width needed for the table.
Ariver tableis created when epoxy is poured between two live edge wood slabs. The epoxy, available in a wide variety of colors, not only serves to connect the two pieces but also creates a dramatic and mesmerizing “river” effect that varies in its width, curves, and “flow”.
As with all of our furniture, a pre-catalyzed polyurethane finish is applied to the wood. It helps provide durability and resistance to scratches for our tables and wood bases.
Our American Steel bases are powder-coated to give the steel 10 years of weather resistance before significant rust. The powder coat also helps prevent chips and corrosion.
Climate Control & Light
Do not place your new wooden furniture in direct sunlight. Over time, UV rays can bleach and damage the integrity of the wood.
Place your wooden furniture away from heat sources such as fireplaces, radiators, or heating vents. Regular exposure to heat will eventually dry and warp the wood.
Avoid significant fluctuations in temperature and humidity which cause the wood to expand and shrink. Use a dehumidifier or humidifier to maintain a more stable climate. The ideal climate for wooden furniture is a consistent 60-80˚F and 30-60% humidity, all year.
Regular Care
Use placemats, tablecloths, trivets, and coasters for tables. While our wooden furniture has a durable finish, heat and moisture can cause damage to any wood surface.
Avoid the use of rubber and plastics on wooden furniture. As plastics break down, they can bleach their color onto the wood’s surface and chemically damage the finish.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Dust your wooden furniture frequently. Dust with the grain of the wood to maintain the integrity of the natural wood design.
Microfiber cloths are best at trapping dirt but any soft cloth can be used to dust your furniture. Refold the cloth often to avoid redepositing dust back onto the surface.
Avoid spray polishes. Repeated use causes a build-up of the polish which dulls the surface of your furniture.
Consistently use the same type of polish on your wooden furniture. Using a wax-based polish and an oil-based polish interchangeably can result in a cloudy or streaked appearance on your wood finish.
Only use cleaning products that are designed for the finish applied to your particular piece of wood. When in doubt, a soft cloth moistened with water and a drop of detergent will adequately clean most wooden surfaces. To regularly clean a frequently used wooden surface, such as a dining table, a mixture of 1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar to 1 cup of water will help remove normal daily residue.
Never saturate your wooden surfaces. When using a moistened wet cloth to clean your wood, immediately rinse and dry the surface when you are finished.
Powder-coated metals may be cleaned with a clean, damp cloth.
